The Turkish defense company MKE has developed special anti-drone ammunition for M2 Browning heavy machine guns.
This is reported by the SavunmaSanayiST publication.
The new ammunition was presented together with the MKE TOLGA remote-controlled modules designed to destroy various types of drones.
The 12.7×99 mm ammunition is said to be effective at hitting targets at a distance of up to 300 meters due to its remote fuzing, which creates a cloud of metal particles around the target, effectively neutralizing it.
It is worth noting that the development of such ammunition is actively underway in different countries and for different cartridges. The United States has tested a specialized 5.56×45 mm anti-drone munition designed to intercept FPV drones and small quadcopters at close range.
The design of the bullet has a shifted center of mass and a modified shell, which causes it to lose gyroscopic stabilization after 10-15 meters of flight. This creates a wide cone of destruction that compensates for the small silhouette and speed of the drone.
Similar munitions are being developed in Ukraine and Russia. In November 2025, several Ukrainian defense companies began preparations for the mass production of anti-drone ammunition, as announced by Ukrainian Defence Minister Denys Shmyhal.
The Ukrainian ammunition is also made in the 5.56×45 mm caliber commonly used by the Ukrainian Defense Forces and can be used in standard assault rifles.
