The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine set fire to a Russian Tu-134 aircraft at the Orenburg-2 air base.

A video of the arson was published on the official DIU website.

The arson took place on the night of October 12-13 at the Orenburg-2 air base, where a military transport plane used to transport Russian generals was located.

The DIU noted that the plane had been part of the 117th Military Transport Aviation Regiment (unit 45097), 18th Guards Military Transport Aviation Division.

In addition to transporting government and military officials, the Tu-134Sh and UBL/Sh versions of the aircraft are used by the Russian Armed Forces as training aircraft.

First of all, they are used to train air force and the naval aviation pilots, which allows them to acquire skills in flying multi-engine aircraft such as Tu-160 and Tu-22M3.

A small number of these aircraft are used by the Russian Navy’s naval aviation for the transportation purposes, in particular, to transport high-ranking military officials.

It should also be noted that Orenburg-2 air base is used by the Russian Ministry of Defense to base transport aviation, which reports directly to the Aerospace Force’s supreme command, the Military Transport Aviation Command.

The 117th Military Transport Aviation Regiment stationed there currently consists of three squadrons, two of which are equipped with IL-76MD aircraft, and one with IL-22P and An-12PPs.

In addition, the aircraft from this airfield are actively used by the Russians to transport personnel and military equipment, which is then used by the Russian military on the territory of Ukraine.

Earlier, Militarny reported that on September 21, 2024, an Mi-8 military helicopter had burned down at the Omsk-Severny airport.

According to a local publication, the arson was intentional and was committed by two sixteen-year-old schoolchildren.
