US President Donald Trump stated that NATO could face a ‘very bad future’ if allies do not support Washington in ensuring security in the Strait of Hormuz amid the war with Iran.

He made these remarks in an interview with the Financial Times, commenting on the situation surrounding the blockade of a key maritime route through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supplies passes.

He emphasized that countries benefiting from oil transportation through the Strait of Hormuz must also participate in ensuring the security of this route.

He noted that European and Asian countries are far more dependent on oil from the Persian Gulf than the United States, and therefore should play a more active role in ensuring the safety of shipping.

The US president also called on countries such as China, France, Japan, South Korea, and the United Kingdom to participate in joint efforts.

“Allies can provide military units to combat Iranian drones, sea mines, and other threats in the waters of the Persian Gulf,” Trump said.

According to him, Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz since the start of hostilities with the US and Israel more than two weeks ago, triggering a sharp rise in oil prices on global markets.

Against this backdrop, international oil prices have risen to approximately $106 per barrel, which is about 45% higher than before the outbreak of hostilities.

Trump also raised the possibility of postponing the planned summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping if Beijing does not help unblock the strategic strait.

He noted that he expects China to play an active role, since a significant portion of China’s oil imports passes through the Strait of Hormuz.

In addition, the US president warned that the US could launch new strikes against Iranian oil infrastructure, specifically against Kharg Island, which is a key hub for Iranian oil exports.

As a reminder, the first six days of the war against Iran cost the US over $11 billion.
