The Ukrainian military began to use French TRF1 155mm howitzers.
The first footage of these howitzers in Ukraine was shown by Andriy Tsapliyenko, a Ukrainian journalist.
According to him, howitzers are used in battles in the Donetsk region.
“French TRF1 155mm howitzers are already being used by the Ukrainian army in hostilities near Bakhmut,” said Andrii Tsaplienko.
In the video, a French howitzer is towed by a Renault TRM 10000 tractor.
In December, Ukraine received from France six TRF1 155mm towed howitzers.
Ukraine acquired at least 15 TRF1 howitzers through S2M equipment company in early September 2022.
The sale was supported by the French Armed Forces Ministry.
TRF1 (Canon tracté de 155 mm Tr F1 – fr.) with a 39-caliber barrel length is able to fire six rounds per minute and send a conventional 155mm projectile for 24 km.
Rocket-assisted projectiles can hit targets at a distance of up to 30 km.
Like FH70 howitzers, the French TRF1 can move at speeds of up to 8 km/h.
TRF1 howitzers (Canon tracté de 155 mm Tr F1 – fr.) were manufactured by Nexter, which is also the manufacturer of CAESAR self-propelled guns. The last four TRF1 in the French army were withdrawn from service in 2022. After the replacement with the CAESAR self-propelled guns, about 100 TRF1 howitzers were in storage.
