The wreckage of the Russian Geran-2 (Shahed) kamikaze drone was found in the Romanian border district of Tulcea.
The Ministry of Defense of Romania reported about this.
It is reported that the search operation was conducted outside the populated area of the municipality of Plauru.
The discovered fragments of the kamikaze drone were collected for examination according to legal procedures.
“The Ministry of National Defense reiterates its strong condemnation of these attacks by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian objects and infrastructure, which are unjustified and in serious violation of international law,” the Ministry of Defense of Romania stated.
On September 18, Militarnyi reported that Romania called on NATO to take action over the intrusion of Russian Shahed drones into the alliance’s airspace.
Romanian Defense Minister Angel Tîlvăr stated that NATO should take “powerful, coordinated” measures in response to such incidents when Russian missiles or drones fired at Ukraine enter the alliance’s airspace.
Poland’s Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Zalewski stated that at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in October, the issue of shooting down drones that enter allied airspace will need to be considered.
Russian Shahed drones have repeatedly flown into Romanian airspace and crashed there.
Because of these incidents, the Romanian Air Force has been forced to raise its fighter jets to monitor the air situation.
In March, one of the Russian drones detonated near the large Romanian city of Brăila.
As a result of the detonation of the drone’s warhead, a 4-meter-diameter crater was formed.
