Raytheon Missiles and Defense received a contract from the US military for supplying modern anti-ship missiles.
This is stated in the press release of the US Department of Defense.
The United States Department of Defense announced the signing of an additional contract for the supply of missile systems that provide damage to targets beyond direct visibility (OTH-WS).
Raytheon Missiles and Defense will receive the amount of about 102.7 million dollars under a previously signed N00024-18-C-5432 contract.
It is expected that the contract will be completed by May 2024.
The OTH-WS program provides the fleet with anti-ship and over-horizon offensive means of combat.
In 2018, the corporation received a contract from the US military to supply the first batch of Naval Strike Missile (NSM) anti-ship missiles to equip the Littoral Combat Ship.
It was the Naval Strike Missile that won the Over-the-Horizon Weapon Systems (OTH WS) tender.
The Naval Strike Missile was developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg as a replacement for the Penguin missiles.
Raytheon and Kongsberg have joined forces to compete for new US anti-missile contracts in 2015. In 2016, Raytheon and Kongsberg agreed to build and test Norwegian missile components at the Raytheon facility in Tucson, Arizona, and launchers at the Raytheon plant in Louisville.
These weapons can be used to defeat naval and ground targets.
NSM has a range of about 185 kilometers, having a cost slightly less than Raytheon’s Tomahawk Block IV cruise missile – about $ 868,000 in 2018, adjusted for inflation.
