The US has made a determination approving a possible Foreign Military Sale of Ground Command and Control and related equipment to the Government of Morocco.
The estimated total cost of the deal is $141.1 million.
The Government of Morocco has requested to buy six Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS-JTRS).
The MIDS-JTRS is a four-channel programmable radio that provides Link 16 and Tactical Air Navigation System (TACAN) functionality on one channel, plus three additional channels supporting extended JTRS network signals, including Airborne Networking Waveform (ANW), in the 2 MHz to 2 GHz frequency range.
Compared to its predecessor, the MIDS Information System (LVT), it includes additional features. MIDS is a tactical communications system that combines different types of information platforms into a common tactical data network. According to STANAG 5516, the Link 16 protocol is defined as one of the MIDS digital services.
Link 16 is a type of military tactical data exchange network. It is used by the U.S. and NATO countries.
It is one of the constituent parts of the TADIL (Tactical Digital Information Link) family of tactical data transmission networks.
