Training of Ukrainian military pilots on F-16 fighter jets in the United States will begin in the near future.
Voice of America journalist Ostap Yarysh reports, citing Pentagon officials.
First, the pilots of the Ukrainian Air Force will undergo language training in Texas.
The English language training is expected to last about five weeks, after which they will begin training on American F-16 fighter jet.
Preliminarily, it will be a multi-month training program for Ukrainian soldiers that will take place in Arizona.
It became known in August that the U.S. Department of Defense planned to begin training Ukrainian pilots on F-16s in the United States.
Before that, Pentagon officials said that Ukrainian pilots would be trained in the United States if the European coalition’s efforts to train dozens of pilots led by the Netherlands and Denmark reached the limit of their potential.
It is not yet known whether the United States will train Ukrainians who were supposed to participate in European training programs or whether it will be an additional group.
As previously reported, eight Ukrainian pilots began F-16 training in Denmark.
The training takes place at the air base in Skrydstrup, where the Danish Air Force’s fighter wing, consisting of the 727th and 730th squadrons, is stationed. Moreover, 65 personnel will be trained in maintaining and servicing the jets.
As of the end of August, some of the pilots have successfully completed the preparatory activities, so they can already begin the F-16 training. Denmark will supply Ukraine with 19 F-16 fighter jets. The first six fighters will fly from Denmark to Ukraine closer to the New Year.
As previously reported, the Netherlands will transfer almost all of its F-16 fighter jets to the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The Norwegian authorities have also decided to transfer its F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine.
