Multinational military exercises involving three countries have begun in Moldova, with the aim of increasing interoperability between them.
The Ministry of Defense of Moldova reported on this.
From August 5 to 23 this year, the Moldovan army will hold Fire Shield-2024 multinational exercises (Romanian: Scutul de Foc – 2024) at several military training grounds.
The training, which will involve Moldovan, Romanian and American soldiers, aims to develop operational capabilities and increase interoperability between the armies of the three countries.
Mechanized units with military equipment and artillery systems of the Moldovan army will be involved. They will move along roads of national importance in the coming days.
The Fire Shield-2024 multinational exercise is a planned exercise and has traditionally been held in Moldova every year since 2015.
The exercise involves the military contingents of the three countries performing tactical maneuvers with live firing from infantry weapons and artillery systems during the day and at night.
In the course of practical exercises, the military practiced interaction with mechanized units, armored vehicles and engineering equipment.
In addition, the published footage of the 2019 exercises showed the practice of landing from an An-2 aircraft.
The number of this year’s exercises is not reported, but last year about 500 Moldovan, Romanian, and American soldiers took part in the exercises.
Last month, the Ministry of Defense of Moldova announced the reinforcement of its army with 20 American HMMWVs.
The HMMWVs will be used by the Moldovan army during national and international training and exercises.
