The United States is preparing a new US$1.1 billion arms package for Ukraine.
Reuters reported about this with reference to the U.S. officials.
American officials shared on condition of anonymity that a new aid package for Ukraine to resist the Russian occupation will be announced soon.
It is expected that the funds for this package will come from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) appropriated by Congress to allow the Biden administration to procure weapons from industry rather than from existing U.S. weapons stocks.
The aid package will include HIMARS launcher systems, accompanying munitions, various types of counter-drone and radar systems, along with spare parts, training, and technical support.
On September 16, the US Department of Defense released a new list of $600 million military aid package to Ukraine.
This would already be the 21st tranche of defense assistance for Ukraine from the United States since August 2021.
Also, the first two NASAMS SAM batteries will soon be arriving in Ukraine.
In addition, the United States is purchasing Switchblade 600 loitering munitions for Ukraine. The Pentagon had finalized a contract for the drone supply.
Today, armament directors of the US and partner countries are meeting in Brussels to discuss the long-term arms assistance strategy for Ukraine.
Bill LaPlante, US Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment, will lead the first meeting gathering the national armament directors.
More than 40 members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group will participate in this meeting.
