The United States and its allies are working to supply Ukraine with artillery within the new military aid package.
Militarnyi informs about this.
The Biden administration is poised to dramatically expand the scope of weapons it is providing for Ukraine, U.S. officials said on Tuesday. The Pentagon is looking to send armored Humvees and a range of other arms, the Washington Post reports.
Preliminary plans circulating among the government officials and lawmakers in Washington also include Mi-17 helicopters, howitzer guns, coastal defense drones, and protective clothing for the personnel in the event of a chemical, biological or nuclear attack.
However, it is unclear whether all these items will remain in the final aid package. A spokesman for the US Department of Defense has already stated that Russian-made helicopters would not be included.
According to media reports, some of the weapons expected in the next package are new to Ukrainian troops, and they would likely need training before they would be able to use them in combat.
A senior US Defense Department official anonymously shared with the reporters on Tuesday that the Biden administration is open to this if this would meet Ukraine’s specific needs.
Since President Biden took office last year, the United States has provided over $2.4 billion in US security assistance to Ukraine, including $1.7 billion in aid that was provided since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
It was also reported that servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are preparing to go to the UK to master the new armored vehicles that London would be supplying to Ukraine.
This regards approximately 120 armored vehicles that are being prepared for the Ukrainian army.
