The United States declared that it did not transfer the long-range weapons that could reach the airfield in occupied Crimea to Ukraine.
Voice of America reports about this.
This was announced by a senior official of the US Department of Defense.
During a briefing on Friday, a senior Pentagon official stated that Ukraine did not receive weapons that could have reached the Saky military airfield in Russian-occupied Crimea.
“I don’t have the answers to the question of what happened in Saky. The only thing I can say is that it was not ATACMS because we did not provide them to Ukraine,” the Pentagon official said.
He added that the explosion in Saky “had a significant impact on the Russian Air Force and aviation personnel.”
As previously reported, on August 9, explosions occurred on the territory of the Novofedorivka military airfield in occupied Crimea.
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation announced on August 10 that several aviation munitions detonated on the territory of the Saky military airfield.
The Russian media, citing a source in the Ministry of Defense of Russia, reported that the explosions were caused by a violation of fire safety requirements.
Satellite images captured that at least 8 or 9 aircraft were destroyed, along with the premises similar to ammunition depots and fuel storage.
After the explosions, a fire broke out at the air base. Also, the private vehicles of the Saky military airfield personnel were damaged.
According to open sources, the 43rd Fighter Aviation Regiment of the Russian Air Force is based at the airfield in Novofedorivka. It mainly includes such aircraft as Su-30SM, Su-33, and Su-24М bomber jets.
