The U.S. Department of State believes that “China has largely supported Russia’s war in Ukraine from the very beginning,” even if it hasn’t provided lethal weapons.
Therefore, the USA warned Beijing about the consequences of cooperation with the Russian Federation.
This was discussed at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing, CNN reports.
“We’ve made that very clear to the Chinese. The Secretary of State certainly did so in Munich, and of course, the President and the national security adviser have done so directly to the Chinese on previous occasions,” Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs, reported.
In addition, thirteen Chinese entities have also been added to the Entities List by the US Commerce Department for supporting Russia, including one supplying parts to the Iranian drone program.
“We will not hesitate to put companies on the Entity List as soon as we see factual data that they are supplying Russia. And we have, we’re looking at across all third parties, but especially China in that regard,” Under Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security at the Commerce Department Alan Estevez said.
As previously reported, Chinese authorities are considering providing Russia with drones and ammunition to be used in the war with Ukraine.
Sources familiar with the intelligence information claim that a final decision is yet to be made in Beijing, but talks between Russia and China on the supply of weapons are ongoing.
It is noted that since invading Ukraine, Russia has repeatedly requested drones and ammunition from China. The Chinese leadership has been actively debating over the last several months whether or not to send the lethal aid.
