A several-week training course in Leopard 2 tanks operation held for Ukrainian soldiers in Germany is coming to an end.
The German broadcaster NDR reports about this.
They note that the military will soon return to Ukraine together with the tanks. The date of completion of studies is not specified.
On March 13, the soldiers conducted shootings at the Bergen military training area in the Celle area.
The commander of the tank forces school, Björn Schultz, emphasized that the training allowed the soldiers to fire using modern weapons systems of Leopad 2A6 tanks.
On February 24, 2023, it became known that Germany would transfer 18 Leopad 2A6 tanks to Ukraine.
Germany will also provide logistics and ammunition for these vehicles.
In addition to the 18 Leopard 2A6 tanks that Germany has pledged to provide, three more units of the same modification are promised by Portugal.
The Ukrainian military is also undergoing training with the Marder IFVs.
As previously reported, on March 9, the Minister of Defense of Poland announced that the Polish government had handed over the last 10 of 14 Leopard 2A4 tanks to Ukraine and completed the training of Ukrainian soldiers.
This tank is equipped with a 120mm Rh120/L55 smoothbore gun by Rheinmetall.
Auxiliary armament of the Leopard 2A6 is a 7.62 mm machine gun.
The turret and hull are projectile-resistant in shape. The upper frontal part has a large angle of inclination, which, together with the armor, provides effective protection against subcaliber projectiles and anti-tank guided missiles.
Leopard 2A6M is a version of the 2A6 with enhanced undercarriage mine protection and internal improvements to increase survivability of the crew.
