The flag of Ukraine was raised again on Zmiyinyi Island.

The photo was released in the StratCom Telegram channel of the Armed forces of Ukraine.

The troops of the Armed Forces of Ukraine landed on the Ukrainian Black Sea island, which was recently abandoned by the Russians, and raised the national flag.

It was reported on July 4th that the Defense Forces returned the Zmiyinyi Island under the control of Ukraine. Natalia Humeniuk, Head of the Press Center of South Ukraine’s Defense Forces, announced this during a briefing.

On June 30, Russian troops left Zmiyinyi island. The Armed Forces of Ukraine noted that it became possible due to the successful military operation of the rocket and artillery units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine that were launching strikes on the island.

The Defense Forces of Ukraine showed Bohdana self-propelled howitzers and Bayraktar TB2 drones firing at the Russian invaders on the island.

On July 1, the Russian invasion forces conducted an air strike on the island. Russian command used two Su-30 fighter jets, which took off from the Belbek airbase.

Already on July 3, photos of Russian forces escaping from Zmiyinyi appeared. As shown in the pictures, Mi-8/17 and Mi-24/35 helicopters were used for evacuation.

In particular, the Russians left the Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery system, and radar that resembles the P-18 radar on the island.

Information about the destruction of enemy forces on Zmiyinyi first appeared on June 21. Operational Command “South” at that time noted that the Ukrainian troops used various forces and equipment, and the Russians suffered significant losses.

More than ten strikes were recorded during the fire attack on the island on June 27. On June 17, the Ukrainian military sank the Russian tugboat “Vasily Bekh”, which was transporting equipment and ammunition to the island.
