The U.S. Army has ordered an additional batch of M109A7 Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicle and M992A3 Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicle.

This is reported on the official website of the American branch of BAE Systems.

An additional order worth $493 million is aimed at continuing the production of M109A7 self-propelled howitzers and M992A3 Field Artillery Ammunition Supply Vehicle.

According to the order, the equipment is to be delivered between August 2025 and July 2026.

The new M109A7s will complement U.S. artillery units and provide an advantage on the battlefield by integrating the latest positioning and control systems, a high rate of fire booster, and a satellite system for firing precision-guided rounds.

“We are focused on producing and fielding modern artillery capabilities that provide the Army with overmatch in range, accuracy, and lethality,” Dan Ferber, director of BAE Systems Combat Mission Systems, said.

BAE Systems started mass-producing M109A7 self-propelled guns in 2020, and today, the total order book is about USD 3 billion.

M109A7

The M109A7 is the most advanced howitzer in the M109 family of SPH and the main artillery unit of the US Army’s Armored Brigade Combat Teams.

The modernized vehicle has a digital fire control system and a semi-automatic loading system. The artillery unit’s hydraulic drives were replaced with electric analogs, which increased the free space for additional ammunition.

The M109A7 was partially unified with the M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle. Its chassis was replaced with an improved one with suspension elements, a more powerful Cummins V903 engine, and the HMPT-800 transmission from the U.S. IFV. The vehicle also received a computerized system for monitoring the condition of systems and units.

Militarnyi previously reported that the US Army ordered additional M109A7 self-propelled howitzers worth $57 million.

The work will be performed in York, Pennsylvania, and is expected to be completed by December 30, 2027.
