In February 2023, the Swedish government allocated one of its largest military aid packages to Ukraine, which for the first time included CV 90 infantry fighting vehicles.
Ukraine was supposed to receive 51 CV9040C infantry fighting vehicles from Sweden, but the transfer of specialized vehicles and armored recovery vehicles on this chassis was not reported.
Bärgningsbandvagn 90 is a specialized vehicle made on the CV 90 IFV chassis. This vehicle was developed in the first half of the 1990s. The task of Bgbv 90 is to rescue from the battlefield and tow armored vehicles and vehicles weighing no more than 35 tons.
The armored vehicle is equipped with a soil dumper, a lifting crane, a rotary winch, and other repair equipment.
The repair unit, together with this vehicle, is capable of carrying out simple equipment repairs in the field and dismantling of assemblies and units, for example, replacing a turret or an engine.
The crew consists of four people: the commander of the vehicle, the gunner, the driver, and the engineering equipment operator.
The vehicle’s armament consists of a closed machine gun turret for the 7.62 mm m/39C machine gun, used for self-defense. Six Galix systems are also mounted on the vehicle.
The 23-ton vehicle has retained the level of protection of the original IFV, which provides protection against 30-mm ammunition in the frontal projection and against 14.5-mm machine guns around the perimeter.
According to the regular organizational structure of mechanized battalions of the Swedish army, one Bgbv 90 armored recovery vehicle is provided for each Strf 90 company.
