The State Kyiv Design Bureau LUCH designs a 120mm guided mine for the Ministry of Defence of Poland.

About this in an interview with the Youtube channel Iceland in the POPOVA program told the General Designer Oleg Korostelov.

The principle of mine guidance is a laser beam.

The laser indicates the target, and the semi-active laser target designator range-finder on the projectile adjusts the mine’s flight trajectory for accurate damage.

“We are designing two systems for Poland, for the Ministry of Defense of Poland. That is, according to their order, two systems are a 120mm guided mine on a reflected laser beam, and an anti-tank complex only with their homing head,” Korostelov said.

Regrettably, Oleg Petrovych did not tell the details about the system, so we took the information published on the official website of the State Kyiv Design Bureau LUCH where the guided mortar armament system is mentioned.

It is designed to destroy modern armoured and unarmoured, moving and stationary equipment as well as pinpoint engineering structures.

The system includes:

• 120-mm high-precision guided mine;
• laser target designator range-finder that ensures targets detection, monitoring and identification on location, their spherical coordinates measurement (range, position and elevation angles) and designation by method of laser illumination of the target;
• shot synchronization system that provides “fire” command transmission for automatic switching on of the laser target designator range-finder illumination mode with a specified delay;
• installable device that provides initial data input into the guided mine control system;
• radio stations that ensure digital and vocal connection between the observation station and the firing post.

But not only the State Kyiv Design Bureau LUCH is working on a 120-mm guided mine, in 2018 we reported on similar work by the State Enterprise Research and Production Complex “Progress”.

The development of the Nizhyn enterprise was named “Krucha” and the homing head unified with 155/152 mm ammunition “Barvinok”, as well as for 122 mm missiles “Karasuk”.
