SSU counter-intelligence prevented sabotage on the Odesa railway. Law enforcement officers detained a Russian agent who worked for the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The press service of the Security Service of Ukraine reported about this.
Investigators established that the man collected data on the transportation of military equipment, weapons, ammunition, fuel and petroleum products on several sections of the Odesa railway.
The detainee passed the information to Russian intelligence in order to prepare explosions on the main logistics routes of the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the southern direction.
To do this, he installed two remote camera traps near the railway track in the suburbs of Odessa. These devices allowed him to track the movement of rolling stock in real time.
At the same time, the man constantly changed his appearance and communication channels with his Russian curator. He also used fake documents, including a passport of a citizen of Ukraine.
“The SSU officers timely established the whereabouts of the intruder, documented the criminal actions and detained him while setting up the device for remote monitoring of the railway transport route. During the detention of the enemy saboteur, a TNT blocks weighing 200 g and another camera trap were found,” the SSU reported.
During the investigation, the law enforcement officers also seized 11 TNT blocks and a TM-62 mine with detonators from the intruder.
Investigators established that the detained Russian agent was a former official of one of the district police departments in Odesa. After a full-scale invasion, he was recruited by officials of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation for reconnaissance and subversive activities in the region.
The man was informed of suspicion under part 2 of Art. 111 (Treason) and Part 1 of Art. 263 (Illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The saboteur also can be filed a charge under Art. 113 (Sabotage) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The investigation in this case continues.
It will be recalled that the State Bureau of Investigation detained a collaborator whom the occupation authorities of the Kharkiv region appointed as “Deputy Minister of Industry”.
