The President of Slovakia is blocking the transfer of aid to Ukraine, previously announced by the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia.

Currently, President Zuzana Čaputová is refusing military aid to Ukraine due to changes in the parliament, where Robert Fico won and promised voters to stop military aid to Ukraine.

The President of Slovakia does not want to go against the parliament at the moment and has adopted a position of supporting their actions, arguing that she respects the results of democratic elections.

“The results of democratically held elections must be respected, and the act of ignoring the position of the Social Democrats, which he promised voters (suspension of aid to Ukraine), will only set a bad precedent for the future,” Slovak President Zuzana Čaputová claimed.

Since the President of Slovakia has limited power, she cannot cancel the military assistance project of the Ministry of Defense.

Despite the fact that aid is currently being blocked, Slovakia has provided significant assistance to Ukraine throughout the full-scale war in Ukraine.

The country donated armored vehicles, artillery, air defense systems, ammunition, and aircraft to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In addition, a social survey in Slovakia shows that the majority of people believe that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began because of the policies of Western countries.

“We see it as a proxy war that the United States is waging against Russia on Ukrainian soil. This is not about Russia and democracy. The point is that Russia is defending its cultural, national identity against the liberal mania of the West,” said the deputy chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Slovakia, Smer-SD.

Militarnyi previously reported that in April 2023, the Slovak government reported on the transfer of all 13 promised MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.

The first batch of four fighter jets was handed over to the Ukrainian Air Force in March of this year. They took off from the air base under the control of Ukrainian pilots, and are currently defending the skies of Ukraine.

These fighter jets were delivered by land with the greatest possible safety ensured.

“This transfer was carried out by land with the maximum possible security in mind, once again a huge gratitude to all the forces involved, because in such cases it is a really important and complex logistical operation,” Jaroslav Nad’, the Minister of Defense of the Slovak Republic, emphasized.
