The United States will review the spending of military aid to Ukraine.
The Inspector General of the US Department of Defense, Sean O’Donnell, said in an interview with Bloomberg that he had ordered an analysis of how $26.6 billion in military aid to Ukraine was spent, European Pravda reported.
The oversight will focus on the effectiveness of Pentagon accounting systems to record and track Ukraine-related spending.
It will also include probing US intelligence-sharing agreements with allies in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the effectiveness of training for Ukrainian forces and the potential for diversions of combat gear to the black market.
The US official emphasized that NATO officials “seem confident that the security was sufficient for the transfer of weapons”.
“As far as we can tell, right now, everything that is supposed to shoot and go boom, Ukrainians are using every bit of it,” he said.
Inspector General said the Ukrainian officials do their accounting of American equipment with “hand receipts, it’s all paper.”
Once equipment gets to Ukraine “I don’t think they have much fidelity” as to where it ends up, the official said.
As previously reported, Bonnie Jenkins, Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Affairs, stated that the United States is confident in Ukraine’s actions to protect the American-origin armament.
Jenkins argues that Washington is monitoring the use of American weapons by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and they are confident in the actions of the Ukrainian government to account for and protect against the illegal distribution of the transferred weapons.
The United States is serious about protecting American technology.
Under Secretary Jenkins noted that the State Department is confident in the actions from the Ukrainian side.
