Ukrainian Defense Forces remaining at Azovstal continue to hold defense and are following the orders from the military command.
Illia Samoilenko, Intelligence Department Officer from the Azov Regiment, shared this in an interview with Sky News.
“We cannot surrender because we have no order to surrender. We will not violate the previous order. It is very important. We do not violate orders. We are clearly following the orders,” he said.
He also noted that the Azov Regiment is recognized as a terrorist organization in Russia, so the unit is threatened with imprisonment.
Illia Samoilenko noted that the defenders of Mariupol have first-hand witnessed the murders and atrocities of the Russian military in Mariupol, thus Moscow is not interested in the soldiers who remain in Mariupol to survive.
On the morning of May 11, the Azov Regiment reported that over the past 24 hours, 34 aircraft sorties, including those of 4 strategic bomber flights, were deployed to the territory of the Azovstal plant. Als, the enemy naval artillery, tanks, and other weapons continue to pour down fire against the enterprise.
The enemy does not stop trying to capture the territory of Azovstal and continues daily attempts of assault with the support of infantry.
Previously, Petro Andriushchenko, Adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol reported that 100 civilians are still remaining in the bomb shelters of the enterprise.
The servicemen cannot confirm this information, as it is difficult to verify due to difficulties in accessing the premises.
However, the defenders of Mariupol demand the evacuation of the wounded who remain in the field hospital.
