Clashes between the Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces of Sudan (RSF) left at least 56 civilians killed and another 595 injured.

On the evening of Saturday, April 15, the Armed Forces of Sudan carried out an airstrike on the Rapid Support Force (RSF) base near the capital, the city of Khartoum.

Early on Sunday morning, witnesses heard the sounds of artillery shelling in Khartoum, the towns of Omdurman, and the surrounding Bahri region.

The shooting was also reported in the Red Sea city of Port Sudan, where no fighting had previously been reported.

The Sudanese Doctors’ Union reported at least 56 civilians killed and 595 people, including combatants, wounded since the fighting erupted.

There are also casualties among military personnel, but their exact number is not reported.

The RSF claimed to have seized the presidential palace, army chief’s residence, state television station, and airports in Khartoum, the northern city of Merowe, El Fasher, and West Darfur state. The military rejected those assertions.

The Sudanese air force advised civilians to stay indoors while it conducted what it called an aerial survey of RSF activity, and a day off was declared in Khartoum state for Sunday, closing schools, banks, and government offices.

On April 15, explosions and gunfire were heard in Khartoum after several days of tension between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Force (RSF). The controversy centers around the country’s proposed transition to civilian rule.

Recently during the hostilities, a Boeing 737 of the Ukrainian airline SkyUp, which was stationed at the airport of the city of Khartoum, caught fire.
