The Dutch government has announced the allocation of €122 million for helping Ukraine.
The press service of the Dutch government reported on this.
The funds will be used to purchase ammunition, weapons and cybersecurity.
The majority of the money, namely €87 million, will be used to purchase 155-mm artillery shells for Ukraine. This will complement the €130 million that the Netherlands previously allocated to a German-led fund for the purchase of similar large-caliber ammunition.
The Netherlands will also transfer €25 million to the International Fund for Ukraine (IFU). The IFU is led by the United Kingdom and finances joint purchases of weapons directly from manufacturers, including air defense systems, ammunition, and spare parts.
The Netherlands is allocating another €10 million to strengthen cyber defense in Ukraine. This contribution will be used, among other things, to create and expand Ukraine’s Internet infrastructure.
The new aid package is the result of consultations within the Ramstein Contact Group on Ukraine’s defense that had a meeting on January 23.
“It is very important to support Ukraine not only in the short term but also in the long term. Especially now it is important to show that we are helping Ukraine,” emphasized Kajsa Ollongren.
As previously reported, the Dutch government has prepared €2 billion for military aid to Ukraine in 2024.
In December last year, the Dutch government decided to start preparations for the transfer of the first 18 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine. In general, the Dutch government has pledged to transfer most of its F-16s to Ukraine.
In January 2024, the Dutch Ministry of Defense reported that first two out of 14 Leopard 2 tanks for Ukraine, jointly procured by Denmark and the Netherlands, have been refurbished and are ready for shipment.
The National Guard of Ukraine has already received eight modern field hospitals from the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
