The first M270 MLRS arrived in Ukraine

The first batch of M270 multiple rocket launcher systems arrived in Ukraine.

The Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksii Reznikov did not specify the number of delivered MLRS.

“The first MLRS M270 have arrived, they will be good company for HIMARS on the battlefield. Thanks to our partners. No mercy for the enemy,” Oleksii Reznikov wrote.

At the beginning of June, 2022 it became known that the United Kingdom will transfer M270 missile systems and a significant amount of M31A1 ammunition to Ukraine.

It was noted that Britain will send M270 launchers, which are capable of hitting targets at a distance of up to 80 kilometers with high accuracy.

The weapon should help Ukraine to defend itself against full-scale Russian aggression.

Ukrainian military personnel undergoes appropriate training in Great Britain in order to effectively use the transferred weapons.

Norway and the United Kingdom are cooperating to provide Ukraine with long-range multiple rocket launchers (MLRS).

The countries have agreed that the United Kingdom will receive Norwegian weapons systems to compensate for the number of MLRS that will be sent by the UK to Ukraine.

The message of the Norwegian government had specified that this will cover the transfer of three units of MLRS. Open data suggests that twelve of these MLRS are currently in storage in Norway.

The M270 multiple rocket launcher (MLRS) is an esteemed 227-mm rocket launcher system produced by Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

The M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System is designed to carry out combat tasks at any time of the day and under different weather conditions. In particular, these tasks include defeating and destroying from closed firing positions the areas of concentration of troops and combat equipment, positions of the enemy’s barrel and rocket artillery, areas of deployment of its forces and air defense means, cargo cars, lightly armored armored personnel carriers, as well as command posts, communication nodes and other targets.
