The first Turkish Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles arrived in Romania.
Defense Romania reported on this.
The received batch will be prepared on the territory of one of the air bases of the Romanian Air Force, where training flights are to begin soon.
The Romanian Ministry of National Defence reported that photos and videos of the drones with the national registration number, rondel and national flag would be shown to the media after the acceptance works.
The drones are being purchased as part of the Romanian army modernization program, which runs until 2040 and aims to modernize the army.
One standard set of the Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicle includes a control point and six aircraft.
In total, Romania will purchase three unmanned combat aerial vehicles, which will include three command posts and 18 UAVs.
The Ministry of Defense signed the contract for the purchase of Bayraktar TB2 drones in 2022, with a total value of $321 million.
The drones will be used by the Romanian Army, which will provide some flexibility for reconnaissance activities and support of the ground component.
Under the signed contract, the country received the first set in 2024, and the second and third sets will be delivered in 2025 and 2026.
Militarnyi previously reported that, in addition to Turkish devices, the country had placed an order for the purchase of British Watchkeeper X unmanned aircraft systems.
The contract is worth $410 million. The Romanian media reported that each complex would include three drones, which meant that there would be 21 units.
