The EU Council in Brussels is likely to decide to double military aid to Ukraine to 1 billion euros.
The European Union will increase assistance to procure weapons for Ukraine up to EUR 1 billion, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has announced, DW reported.
“Ukraine needs additional weapons, and we, from Germany, support this,” Baerbock said before the meeting.
According to her, the German government “will work actively, and we are already taking care of this so that if it is necessary to buy from German manufacturers, it could happen as soon as possible.”
At the same time, the Minister refused to talk about any details of arms supplies to Ukraine in order to ensure the security of these supplies.
As reported earlier, 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 portable Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems were delivered from Germany to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Volunteers of the Ukrainian territorial defence have been armed with the Panzerfaust 3 anti-tank weapon.
Germany also took part in the transfer of the Patriot anti-aircraft missile system to Slovakia. Instead, the Slovaks are expected to provide Ukraine with division of the S-300PMU missile systems.
Prior to the new phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war, Germany was adamant about refusing to supply Ukraine with any weapons.
Ukraine has repeatedly sent Germany a list of weapons it needs.
In particular, these are medium-range air defense systems, portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
Ukraine also needed portable electronic warfare systems for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), microwave weapons systems, radar systems, as well as night vision devices, surveillance cameras and ammunition.
