The European Union plans to provide additional military equipment to the Moldovan Armed Forces.
European Pravda informs about this.
At a press conference during a visit to Moldova on Wednesday, May 4, Charles Michel, European Council President pledged to increase the EU military aid to Moldova.
The visit of the Head of the European Council is taking place amid the aggravation and provocations in unrecognized Transnistria.
“We will be helping Moldova strengthen its resilience and cope with the consequences of the Russian aggression in Ukraine. Last year, we announced €7 million in equipment support for the army’s medical and internal needs through the EU’s peacekeeping mechanism.
This year, we plan to significantly increase our support to Moldova by providing its armed forces with additional military equipment,” Michel told.
He did not specify the amount of aid and what equipment will be transferred to support Moldova.
Last week, Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that the country’s army is in need of a complete overhaul and modernization.
Sandu noted that over the last 30 years, the authorities had not been paying much attention to the development of troops, and currently the country does not have the necessary protection.
She added that as a Commander-in-Chief, she would make every endeavor to modernize the Moldovan army and defense system.
Previously, a number of explosions were reported in the territory of self-proclaimed Transnistria last week. Moldova’s President Maia Sandu stated that the forces of the “Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic” are behind the recent blasts.
Vadym Krasnoselsky, leader of unrecognized Transnistria, has accused Ukraine of the blasts, but stated that “it will not be possible to drag Transnistria into the war.”
