The European Union intends to train twice as much Ukrainian military personnel as previously planned.

This regards the training of 30,000 military personnel of the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

The official announcement is planned for February 3 at the Ukraine-EU summit in Kyiv.

In addition, the European Union will provide Ukraine with € 25 million for demining, which should also be announced during the summit.

In November last year, European countries launched a mission called EUMAM Ukraine to train Ukrainian military personnel. The plan then was to train 15 thousand of Ukrainian soldiers.

A representative of the European Commission shared that it will be possible to achieve this by the end of June, therefore, the training program will be expanded, and another 15,000 people will be trained, DW reports.

According to him, these soldiers might include Ukrainians who will undergo training on Leopard 2 tanks, which Germany and other European countries are to supply to Ukraine.

The EUMAM Ukraine will last 24 months and will complement the EU’s contributions to Ukraine through the European Peace Fund. It is planned that most of the exercises will take place on the territory of either Poland or Germany.

The mission will ensure coordination with bilateral measures of member states in support of Ukraine, as well as with other international partners, and will be open to the participation of third states.

Instead of a single training center in the countries of the European Union, separate training courses for Ukrainian military personnel by specialty should be organized.

The first battalion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine started training in Poland in November 2022.
