U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin have agreed to reach an ‘aerial ceasefire’ over Ukraine in preparation for a new round of negotiations.
This was reported by The Economist correspondent Oliver Carroll on his page on X.
According to him, the parties are currently seeking to create the groundwork for further negotiations and the implementation of plans for a meeting of the leaders of the three parties.
According to an anonymous source familiar with the situation, Russia’s air attacks on Ukraine may demonstrate the reality of a new stage of negotiations.
“We think the skies will give signals about provisional results of these talks,” Carroll quoted an anonymous source as saying.
In addition, the source told him that the following week would be interesting, which probably indicates new steps in the negotiations and implementation of the trilateral meeting.
As a reminder, on August 15th, 2025, US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin met at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska. The talks, known as the 2025 Russia-United States Summit, were dedicated to discussing ways to end the war in Ukraine and implement a ceasefire.
The meeting, which lasted about 3 hours, ended with a press conference at which no specific agreements were announced, but Trump called the talks ‘extremely productive,’ noting that the parties reached agreement on many points, although key issues remained unresolved.
