The Russian general, commander of Russia’s North group of troops, who failed in the defense of the Kharkiv region, is now in charge of the defense of the Kursk region.
The Moscow Times reported on this.
It is reported that under the command of Lieutenant General Aleksandr Lapin in 2022, the most powerful defense failure occurred near Balakliia, Lyman, and Izium.
In total, in a short period of time, under the onslaught of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians left 10 cities in the Kharkiv region, and Ukraine regained about 3,000 square kilometers of territory.
The failure in the Kharkiv region resembles the current one in terms of the scale and course of events in the Kursk region.
During the counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region, Ukraine managed to capture more than 200 units of abandoned Russian army equipment. As a result of this defeat, Russia announced mobilization.
Lapin has previously been suspended from command of the Central Military District and the Center group of Russian troops.
This happened after his resignation was demanded by Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov and the founder of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
However, the Kremlin and the Defense Ministry decided not to punish Lapin, but sent him to guard the border with a new unit.
As a result of the offensive actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region, the Ukrainian forces managed to take control of 74 Russian settlements.
Inspections and stabilization activities are underway on the territory currently controlled by the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Humanitarian solutions for these areas are also being developed.
The day before, Zelensky instructed the Minister of Internal Affairs, other government officials, and the Security Service of Ukraine to “prepare a humanitarian plan for the territory of the operation.”
