The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Moscow detained Colonel Artem Gorodilov on suspicion of large-scale fraud.
In addition, he is under US sanctions.
Horodilov was the commander of the 234th Guards Air Assault Regiment, stationed in Bucha during the full-scale invasion.
About 30 soldiers of his regiment were accused of atrocities in the Kyiv region.
The Russian soldiers were identified due to phone calls they made from the phones of the killed civilians.
For his battles in the Kyiv region, he was promoted to the rank of Colonel of the Guard ahead of schedule.
Later, he was appointed commander of the Ussuriysk separate air assault troop unit, and in May, Russian media called him the commander of the 83rd Guards Air Assault Brigade stationed in Ussuriysk.
Gorodilov is currently in custody. According to some Russian media reports, he is accused of embezzling more than 1 million rubles ($11,337).
Militarnyi previously reported that in February 2024, the former commander of the Russian Navy’s Admiral Gorshkov Northern Fleet flagship, who promised to hit a five-story residential building with a Zircon missile, was buried in Russia.
