The timeline of when Ukraine can expect to receive new ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns from Germany was reported.
Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz announced the terms of delivery.
According to him, from August 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will start receiving the first batches of 35-mm ammunition, which will be produced on the new production line of the Rheinmetall concern.
Scholz emphasized that the new production is now being set up, but it will take some time.
At the same time, he emphasized that Ukraine cannot use weapons supplied by Germany to attack Russian territory.
The Head of the German government said that this rule is followed by other Western countries that provide military aid to Ukraine to counter the Russian attack and added that with all the necessary assistance, everything should be done to prevent a war between Russia and NATO.
According to the list of weapons transferred to Ukraine, which is regularly updated on the German government’s website, Ukraine received 34 Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, and three more guns are planned for transfer.
The German Rheinmetall plans to start supplying ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, which the German Ministry of Defense ordered on behalf of Ukraine, in the summer of this year.
It was reported that a total of 300,000 shells in two versions, worth several hundred million euros, are planned to be delivered to Kyiv.
Rheinmetall will supply 150,000 APDS-T armor-piercing discarding sabot and HEI-T high-explosive incendiary projectiles each.
The first APDS-T projectiles should be delivered in the summer of 2023. The transition of production from APDS-T to HEI-T is planned for mid-2024.
At its plant in Unterlüß (Lower Saxony), Rheinmetall is currently building additional capacity to produce medium-caliber ammunition, thus responding to the sharply increased global demand for ammunition.
