The British Foreign Office provides GBP 5 million in aid to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On May 18, the National Bank of Ukraine received GBP 5 million from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. The funds have been wired into the NBU’s special account opened to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

This amount is equivalent is over 182 million UAH.

On 30 March, the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office transferred GBP 25 million (approximately UAH 768 million) in financial aid to the NBU’s special account.

The NBU stressed that this is the largest one-off transfer in foreign currency that Ukraine has received from international donors to assist the Armed Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the war.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office for this significant donation to support not only Ukraine’s defense of its freedom and independence but also global peace and democratic values.

We highly appreciate our partnership with the UK government and are thankful for everything it has been doing to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression,” said the Kyrylo Shevchenko, NBU Governor.

The NBU added that almost one-fifth of all foreign currency donations that have been wired into its special account for the Armed Forces of Ukraine are denominated in British pounds (including contributions from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office).

It was previously reported that the United Kingdom will increase its aid to Ukraine by another $1.6 billion. The new batch would almost double Britain’s previous spending commitments on Ukraine.

The extra expenditures on assistance to Ukraine will come from a reserve used by the Government for emergencies.
