The flag of the Ukrainian Navy was raised on patrol boats transferred by Estonia.
This was reported on the official page of the Ukrainian Navy.
During the flag-raising ceremony, patrol boats received their names “Irpin” and “Reni.”
The ceremony was held under the leadership of Vice Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, and with the participation of a delegation from the Republic of Estonia led by Commodore Jüri Saska, Commander of the Estonian Navy.
In the past, the boats were part of the Estonian Navy and were named R01 Roland and R02 Risto, but this year, they were transferred to Ukraine in relatively new conditions.
In Ukraine, the boats were named after the heroic city of Irpen and the city of Reni, whose port is located closest to the Republic of Estonia.
After the ceremony, the ships made a demonstration sailing, where the audience was able to get acquainted with the ships’ interior.
After the ceremony, the guests had the opportunity to get acquainted with the equipment of the boats and their running characteristics, and see the consequences of enemy attacks on the port infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Navy stated.
The Ukrainian Navy press service noted that boats will be involved in performing combat missions and patrolling to protect civilian shipping.
The ships represent the NAVY 18 WP-type patrol boats built on the Baltic Workboats ship. Their official transfer ceremony to the Estonian Navy took place in 2021.
The 17.25 m long boat is powered by two Volvo Penta D13-1000 diesel engines, providing a top speed of 33 knots (61 km/h).
Militarnyi previously reported that at the end of April 2024, Estonia delivered two patrol boats to Ukraine in cooperation with Denmark.
Their transfer was part of international military assistance to reinforce the Ukrainian Navy patrol force in patrolling and ensuring the protection of civilian shipping.
