Ukrainian defense forces shot down a Russian Ka-52 attack aircraft in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Photos of the downed aircraft were posted on social media.
A Russian army aviation helicopter was hit by the soldiers of the 47th Mechanized Brigade “Magura” in the area of the settlement of Robotyno.
The released drone footage features the burning wreckage of the downed invader’s aircraft.
According to Russian bloggers associated with the military aviation of the Russian Armed Forces, the helicopter commander managed to eject successfully, but the navigator was killed.
Only a week ago, on August 7, the 47th Brigade shot down another helicopter of this type in the same area. It was trying to strike at the Ukrainian military. The Russian side confirmed the loss.
Ka-52 attack helicopters carrying anti-tank guided missiles have been actively operating in the Zaporizhzhia region since the beginning of the Defense Forces’ offensive.
They operate as mobile anti-tank weapons that can quickly reach the necessary positions and stop the advance of Ukrainian military vehicles. It is also a common practice among attack helicopter pilots to fire unguided aircraft missiles from a distance of several kilometers from the target.
The downing of these helicopters should significantly facilitate the advance of Ukrainian troops in this area and weaken the potential of the Russian military for a while.
In total, since the beginning of Russia’s invasion in 2022, the invasion forces have already lost 40 Ka-52s. The photo published above captures the 41st downed aircraft.
Currently, the exact number of attack helicopters of this type in Russian army aviation is unknown, but according to some information, the number of aircraft in combat readiness could be 90 units by the beginning of 2022.
On July 25, another Ka-52 helicopter was also shot down. The Marines of the 38th Brigade shot down the enemy aircraft.
