Ukrainian artillery hit the Russian Tor-M2 air defense systems in the Kherson region.
The video capturing the attack was published on social media.
The 9K332M Tor-M2 SAM was detected by the Ukrainian air reconnaissance on the left bank of the Kherson region.
It was then disabled by an accurate artillery strike. The air burst of the ammunition over the SAM and the characteristic debris damage of a large area indicate the use of GMLRS M30A1 missiles of the HIMARS multiple rocket launcher against this target.
The published video does not capture the detonation of the SAM’s ammunition, which would indicate the irreversible loss of the combat vehicle. However, given the impact of the thousands of tungsten fragments of the M30A1 ammunition, it can be assumed that the lightly armored system was at least critically damaged.
At the end of the video, the Ukrainian reconnaissance drone operator included an episode in which the Russian military carried out a motionless body from the damaged vehicle, which clearly indicates numerous armor piercings.
The SAM was hit in the area of Nova Kakhovka, near the settlement of Korobka, Kherson region.
This is not the first case of damage to Russian fire equipment on the left bank of the Kherson Region. Since the beginning of the year, a number of Russian air defense systems and self-propelled artillery systems have been destroyed in this area with long-range weapons.
Only last month, Ukrainian aerial reconnaissance discovered and destroyed the Russian Buk-M1-2 SAM launcher in cooperation with the artillery unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It was also recently reported that as a result of a coordinated operation, Ukrainian HIMARS destroyed the Russian command post of the S-400 air defense system. The media published a photo capturing the battalion’s destroyed command post, which covered a temporary weapons storage facility in the occupied part of the Kherson region.
The Tor air defense system is a Soviet and Russian all-weather tactical anti-aircraft missile system designed to solve the tasks of anti-aircraft and anti-missile defense at the division level.
The Tor-M2 can simultaneously hit up to four targets at a distance of up to 16 kilometers and at an altitude of up to 10 kilometers. One self-propelled launcher can carry 16 missiles.
The 9K332M of the system is capable of operating autonomously, independently detecting and hitting a target. The vehicle’s crew consists of three people.
