Ukrainian gunners have destroyed the Russian Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile system in the Kherson region.

The press service of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports.

The aerial reconnaissance group had scouted the positions of the Russian Osa SAM on the left bank of the Kherson region, and then the gunners of the 406th Separate Artillery Brigade targeted it.

The video portrays how gunners hit an anti-aircraft missile system with the M777 howitzer.

Since the Ukrainian military managed to hit the anti-aircraft missile system with the first shot, it is safe to assume that the 155-mm M982 Excalibur projectile was used.

Previously, on February 2, the artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed the Russian Tor-M2DT SAM system.

This was the first confirmed destruction of a rare Russian air defense system primarily intended for use in Arctic environments.

Counter-battery fire

The 406th Separate Artillery Brigade has been conducting combat operations in Kherson region for a long time and is now taking an active part in counter-battery fire against the artillery of invaders.

In February 2023, a unit of this brigade destroyed three Russian 2S19 Msta-S self-propelled howitzers in three days. The gunners inflicted damage with M982 Excalibur projectiles with the M777 gun.

Subsequently, on February 22, the 406th Artillery Brigade neutralized the Russian ARK-1 Rys’ counter-battery radar.

ARK-1 Rys’ was hit in the area of the village of Zavodivka located in the Kakhovsky district of the Kherson region.
