Soldiers of the 93rd Mechanized Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have shared about the features of the use of French MO-120-RT61 120-mm mortars.

The military published a video with footage of this mortar operation.

These weapons helped units of the Ukrainian separate brigade to keep the defense in the east.

The first footage of these mortar operations in the Bakhmut area was released in early December 2022.

According to the Ukrainian military, a French-made mortar precisely hits at 8.5-kilometer distance with a conventional mine.

Mines for MO-120-RT61 have several actions modes and are able to perform different tasks on the battlefield, depending on the settings.

The same ammunition can be used as shrapnel, HE-fragmentation or high-explosive. It all depends on the setting of the electric fuse, the Ukrainian mortar operator explained.

According to the Ukrainian military, the radius of hit by a French mortar mine is 150-200 meters. This is more than the capabilities of mines of the same caliber, ranging from 50 to 100 meters.

In addition to a conventional mine, a PRPA high-explosive rocket-assisted mine was developed specifically for RT61, which increased the range of fire up to 13 km.

Structurally, the RT61 consists of a gun barrel with a breech, a base plate and a wheel carriage. When firing, the wheel carriage is not separated, which makes it easy to roll the mortar by combat personnel while changing position.

Horizontal and vertical guidance devices, as well as horizontal mechanism and clips with shock absorbers are mounted on the carriage.

The base plate stabilizes the mortar during firing. Besides, the central assembly of the rotating plate makes it possible to conduct a round barrage without its rearrangement.
