The 47th “Magura” Separate Mechanized Brigade has received modernized FPV drones capable of shooting down Russian drones.
The brigade reported that they had successfully used the new drones in the Pokrovsk sector.
The operators of the modernized drones managed to hit two Russian Zala reconnaissance drones.
Russian Zala drones have an approximate maximum flight altitude of 3,000 meters and a speed of 130-200 km/h.
The video shows the modernized FPV drone moving faster than the Russian reconnaissance vehicle. The Ukrainian drone operator is trying to get closer to the wing of the Russian drone and activate the warhead.
“These are not isolated cases, but part of a trend that is potentially alarming for the Russian Federation,” the brigade noted.
These Russian UAVs are dangerous because they collect data on the movement of troops and equipment and the location of critical infrastructure.
A new munition has also been developed for modernized FPV drones to defeat such drones. Intercepting drones with the help of other drones is a relatively new and promising area in the development of air defense.
Unlike classical anti-aircraft missiles, interceptor drones have lower procurement and operating costs and can perform tasks by patrolling a given square, and in the future can be reusable.
In early April, it was reported that Brave1 was looking for developers of an effective interceptor drone to destroy Russian reconnaissance drones.
As previously reported, the 38th Marine Brigade shot down 9 Russian reconnaissance drones using FPV drones.
The video captures the modernized FPV drones successfully catching up with Russian reconnaissance drones Supercam, Zala, and Orlan. Presumably, a pair of modernized FPV drones were sent after one reconnaissance drone.
