In 2024, the Ukrainian Defense Forces received weapons worth almost €538 million thanks to the Danish model.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on this.
This initiative supports the Ukrainian defense industry.
Last year’s funding came from the governments of Denmark (€125 million), Sweden (€20 million), and Iceland (€2.7 million), as well as interest on frozen Russian assets (€390 million).
At the first stage of the Danish model, Ukraine received 155 mm Bohdana wheeled self-propelled howitzers.
Subsequently, the production of long-range drones, anti-tank and anti-ship missiles was financed.
The Ministry of Defense reported that in 2024, Ukraine and Denmark launched a new mechanism for financing the purchase of weapons for the Defense Forces, called the Danish model.
The initiative envisages financing Ukrainian defense companies through the Danish government and other countries.
Ukraine compiles a list of projects that need funding, and Danish experts check the recommended companies and assess their capacity and experience in executing contracts.
It is noted that procurement from the Ukrainian defense industry has significant advantages:
In addition, such purchases support the Ukrainian economy during wartime. They help save jobs and promote the development of domestic industry.
For 2025, Denmark has already reserved €135 million for further purchases from the Ukrainian defense industry, and Norway is expected to contribute approximately €43 million.
