France will allocate funds for the purchase of GM200 radar for Ukraine.
French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu stated that the agreement on radar will be signed with Thales on February 1.
Their transfer will allow Ukraine to strengthen the military airspace control system.
According to Lecornu, back in December he learned from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Oleksii Reznikov, about the need for such radars.
Funds for them will be spent from a special fund of support for Ukraine created by France.
The Minister of Defense of Ukraine is supposed to visit Thales, where he will be presented with this Ground Master 200 (GM200) radar.
It can be integrated into the SAMP/T air defense system, which is also provided to Ukraine.
The GM 200 mobile aerial target detection radar is part of the Ground Master family of radars.
The GM200 model with all its equipment is installed in a container that transports a truck with a wheel arrangement 8×8.
Ground Master GM200 multi-band radar can simultaneously observe air and surface, detect air targets within a radius of up to 250 kilometers (in combat mode – up to 100 kilometers).
GM200 has an open architecture and the ability to integrate with other Ground Master (GM 400) systems, control systems, and air defense systems. If Thales’ pricing hasn’t changed much since 2013, when the UAE purchased 17 GM200 radars for $396 million, then one radar costs around $23 million, which is probably already higher.
Recall that in 2022, Norway ordered three GM200 MM/C radar stations from Thales to detect enemy artillery positions.
