Thailand Seizes Advanced Chinese Anti-Tank Missiles from Cambodian Forces

Thai military personnel have captured a significant quantity of Chinese-made GAM-102LR anti-tank missiles previously operated by the Cambodian army.

The seizure was reported by military analyst War Noir.

According to the released footage, Thai units captured at least one launch system and five missiles.

According to War Noir, the incident occurred on the border between the two countries.

It is worth noting that there had previously been no public information indicating that Cambodia possessed GAM-102LR systems in its arsenal.

However, given Phnom Penh’s close military-technical ties with Beijing, the appearance of such high-tech systems is not surprising.

In particular, the Cambodian army has long been using Chinese-made anti-tank rocket launchers such as the PF-89 and Type 69, as well as a number of man-portable air defense systems of Chinese origin.

GAM-102X/GAM-100X

The GAM-100X is a series of Chinese anti-tank guided missiles with an infrared ‘fire-and-forget’ seeker, exported by Poly Technologies. The family was first unveiled in 2016.

The GAM-100X series includes several variants, notably the GAM-100, GAM-101, and GAM-102.

The GAM-100 is a compact short-range missile with an engagement range of 200 to 2,500 meters, a weight of approximately 13 kilograms, and a length of 1,200 mm. It is designed for shoulder-fired infantry use and is equipped with a soft-launch mechanism.

The missile features an infrared homing seeker, has an initial speed of about 170 m/s, employs a top-attack mode, and provides armor penetration of up to 800 mm of homogeneous armor.

The total weight of the system does not exceed 20 kg, making it a lighter and more affordable alternative to the Chinese HJ-12 ATGM currently in service with the People’s Liberation Army.

The GAM-102 is an enlarged version of the GAM-100, adapted for installation on vehicle platforms. This variant features increased armor penetration of up to 1,000 mm, a maximum firing range of up to 4,000 meters, and can be employed both from combat vehicles and from a tripod-mounted tubular launcher.

The GAM-102LR is a modification of the GAM-102 with extended range, designed to engage targets at even greater distances.
