Norway has partially withdrawn its troops from Iraq amid escalating security tensions in the Middle East.

This was announced by Brinnar Stordal, spokesperson for the Norwegian Armed Forces’ Operational Headquarters, in a comment to NRK.

According to the publication, information about the redeployment appeared earlier in local media.

The reason for the decision is said to be the growing tension between the United States and Iran.

In recent days, the parties have exchanged harsh statements and demonstrated their military presence in the region.

Stordal noted that the Norwegian contingent numbers about 60 military personnel in Iraq and Jordan.

The Norwegian Armed Forces explain that they have reviewed the need for personnel to be present at certain positions.

The military command does not disclose the number of personnel redeployed or their current location.

The agency emphasizes that the decision is temporary and is based solely on security considerations.

As a reminder, the US recently completed the transfer of the Ain al-Asad airbase to the full control of the Iraqi Armed Forces.
