Switzerland will spend about EUR 350 million on the purchase of various drone models.
Hartpunkt reported on this.
Armasuisse, the Swiss federal agency responsible for army logistics, has signed framework agreements worth about EUR 350 million.
The contracts were signed with two German companies, Dronesperhour GmbH and Dronivo GmbH, and one Swiss company, Fieldwork AG.
The latter specializes in construction and agricultural equipment and lists Chinese drone manufacturer DJI and German UAV manufacturer Quantum Systems among its partners on its website.
The term of the framework agreements is between January 1, 2026, and December 31, 2036.
Details on the procurement of unmanned aerial vehicles, their components, assemblies, and additional accessories and services were not disclosed.
The media noted that, based on the listed criteria, in addition to commercial drones, it is also possible to purchase dual-purpose UAVs or versions of commercial drones intended for use by government agencies under the framework agreements.
In addition, Switzerland and Germany plan to jointly procure American Patriot air defense systems.
This will reduce costs, unify maintenance, and organize joint military training.
In the coming weeks, the parties will consider the possibility of training Swiss military personnel at the German Air Force base.
The defense ministers of both countries also confirmed their intention to jointly purchase RCH 155 self-propelled artillery systems and F-35A multi-role fighter jets.
