Because of its neutral status, Switzerland has no plans to allow the re-export of weapons from Germany and Spain to Ukraine.
Swiss President Alain Berset stated this, RBC-Ukraine reports.
When asked whether Bern would be inclined to allow Germany and Spain to transfer weapons to Ukraine, he replied that Switzerland would remain neutral.
“We have been in a stable position for a long time. Switzerland is a neutral country. This is a country of the Geneva Conventions involved in the negotiation process, a country of the world that does not export weapons to conflict zones,” Berset said.
Previously, Switzerland refused Germany’s request to re-export ammunition for the Gepard SPAAG of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Switzerland also does not permit Spain to transfer Aspide air defense systems to Ukraine. The missiles for this SAM have Swiss-made components.
The components of the weapon are produced by Rheinmetall Air Defense based in Zurich.
This enterprise is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of weapons systems for air defense.
