The Swedish Giraffe 75 radars have been noticed in service with the Ukrainian troops, the Ukraine Weapons Tracker OSINT team reports.

Giraffe 75 short-range pulse doppler radars, which are also known under the index PS-90 Giraffe in the Swedish army, have been spotted in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

These radars are designed to operate as a single system with the RBS-70, RBS-90 and Skyguard short-range anti-aircraft missile systems. They provide a range of detection of aerial targets at a distance of up to 75 km.

Previously, there was no information about the transfer of these radar systems by Sweden, but Militarnyi has earlier reported that the RBS-70 air defense systems were in service with the Ukrainian troops.

Giraffe 75

PS-90 Giraffe is a Swedish mobile two-dimensional pulse doppler radar developed by Saab.

It is capable of detecting aerial targets at a maximum distance of up to 75 km and an altitude of up to 10 km. The radar can automatically cover up to 15 targets and automatically track up to 20 targets.

PS-90 Giraffe is two-dimensional – it detects the aircraft in two dimensions: distance and direction. It can detect both aircraft and hovering helicopters.

The radar is mounted on the chassis of the Tgb-40 cross-country trucks, but can also be mounted on the Bv-206 track transporter, as well as other vehicles.

The radar is mounted on a 13-meter mast, with a total radar deployment time of just over 5 minutes.

Radar crew consists of five people who can ensure tracking of three targets in manual mode. The radar is capable of providing a target designation of up to nine fire units.

Information about the targets is available on the combat control panel, from where it can be directed to specific launchers. In this case, the MANPADS operator receives information about the target in the format of an audio signal through the headphones. Its tonality depends on the position of the target relative to the launcher. The reaction time of the system is 4-5 seconds.
