Sweden is increasing its support to Ukraine and will provide an additional €17.9 million (SEK 200 million).
These funds will be transferred to the International Support Fund for Ukraine under the leadership of Great Britain.
“Sweden is increasing support for Ukraine’s defense. Meeting in Riga with partners from the Joint Expeditionary Force, Sweden announced an additional 200 million SEK through the UK-led International Support Fund for Ukraine to strengthen Ukraine’s military capabilities. The freedom and independence of the Ukrainian people is a prerequisite for a safe and secure Europe,” – Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Sweden Ulf Kristersson said.
In total, since February 2022, Sweden has provided Ukraine with €906 million worth of assistance, and €572 million of this amount was allocated for military aid.
The Swedish government also allocated funds for humanitarian aid, financial assistance, reconstruction, and reform support.
In addition, the country supports Ukraine through EU and UN structures.
On December 11, it was announced that Sweden will provide the ninth assistance package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which is 50% larger than the previous one. This decision was made due to an escalation from the Russian Federation.
This package would include air defense systems, components for another air defense system, and winter ammunition for the Ukrainian military.
The information on the exact weapons systems that Sweden is transferring and when they can be delivered to Ukraine was not disclosed.
The eighth aid package contained air defense systems, ammunition, vehicles, personal equipment including winter gear and body armor, aiming equipment, tents, and camouflage nets.
This year, Ukraine received over a quarter of the German military equipment and weapons allocated for exports. In 2022, the country’s government approved the export of arms with a total value of €8.35 billion.
