Sweden will send its instructors to the UK, where they will participate in the training of members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Swedish Ministry of Defence shared that 120 instructors will join the training team.
The Swedish military will offer training for their Ukrainian counterparts between August 12 and December 31.
“The Government has decided that the Swedish Armed Forces will send instructors to the UK to give Ukrainian citizens basic military training to enable them to serve in Ukraine’s armed forces,” the statement said.
The Ministry noted that at one time, there will be no more than 60 instructors in the UK, which will allow not to affect the activities of the Swedish Armed Forces.
“Russia’s war against Ukraine has been going on for over five months, and it’s immensely important that the rest of the world continues to support Ukraine in its fight for sovereignty and self-determination. It’s important that Sweden is part of these efforts, and the Swedish instructors will contribute to strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities,” says Peter Hultqvist, Minister for Defence.
On June 17, during his visit to Kyiv, the British Prime Minister offered Ukraine assistance in training approximately 10 thousand troops.
Later, Britain invited other partner countries to contribute to the training of the Ukrainian military.
Canada has deployed up to 225 instructors to the UK to train Armed Forces personnel.
Also, the New York Army National Guard sent its soldiers to Germany, where they will be training the Ukrainian troops.
140 American soldiers assigned to the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team were sent to Germany.
Prior to their deployment to Germany, the national guardsmen themselves will be trained at the Fort Bliss military base in Texas.
