Sweden will allocate significant funds for the production of Ukrainian long-range missiles.
Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson stated this at a meeting with Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umierov at Stockholm’s Karlberg Castle.
“Sweden will soon allocate significant funds to enable Ukraine to establish the mass production of Ukrainian long-range missiles,” said Jonson.
Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has been trying to increase its own weapons production, partly by producing them jointly with partners.
Ukraine is currently planning to produce several thousand cruise missiles and drone missiles to provide the Defense Forces with strike capabilities.
Ukraine has already developed a long-range version of the Neptune missile for hitting ground targets, and the production is increasing.
According to the president, the Ukrainian military-industrial complex produced more than a hundred missile weapons in 2024.
In early August 2024, it became known that the government had allocated additional funds for Ukraine’s missile program.
And in late September, it was reported that Ukraine would spend part of the EU loan funds secured by frozen Russian assets on the purchase of domestic long-range missiles and drones.
Before the full-scale invasion, Ukraine developed the R-360 Neptune anti-ship cruise missile. And for the first time, its adaptation to hit ground targets became known in April 2023.
Ukraine has also developed and is already operating the Palianytsia missile-drone. This is a drone and a missile at the same time, which falls under both definitions in terms of its specifications.
The Swedish government will also finance the production of Ukrainian-made long-range drones as part of its military assistance.
